ABOUT US
UNO is a Youth-Led Non-Profit Organization that was created to provide a safe space for at-risk youth to feel welcome and wanted in a city where such spaces are hard to find. This was needed more than ever in our community as we are currently facing rapid gentrification and no place that served as a hub for the long-standing members of lower-income families in the community.
We serve as a focal point for the community as a place to be and a town square of sorts where people of colour can feel at home without the feeling of being unwelcome, unwanted, or neglected. The feeling of ostracization was becoming all too common and the disconnect between different generations of youth with shared experiences was felt. So the youth that lead UNO took a stand and created this safe space so that mentorship and togetherness that was once ever-present could be brought back in our community.
We hope to reinvigorate the cycle in our community whereby the older youth are a light to the younger ones by being able to connect, bond and show them a path to a successful future which will lead them to one day grow and pass the torch to the next generation of youth in our community.
